Biography
I am a photojournalism student at the College of Geographic photography in Tel Aviv (Owned & operated by The Masa Acher Magazine) & plan on pursuing a career in the field of photojournalism after graduation.
I am a firm believer in the Gandhi’s saying –
“ We must be the change we wish to see in the world ”
This belief has driven me my entire adult life – beginning with my stubborn insistence on taking part in social activism in high school (mostly poverty related), continuing in my military service & now in my choice of profession.
I believe that what we do as journalists is a powerful way to effect the lives of other – for good or bad, and that’s the goal I have set before me.
Taking this belief system and translating it into a more practical undertaking – I strive to become the best photographer and storyteller I can be in order to improve the chances of my voice being heard.
As a photographer you owe it to those who let you into their lives to do the job properly, otherwise you are just taking advantage of them. I hope to not only tell a powerful story but also do it in a highly visually pleasing way and I do my best to work to that effect.
The better a photographer I can be – the more powerful will my message be, and so the better I can help those who show me who they are and whom I am putting on display to the world.
I am a graduate of 12 years of religious schooling buffered on both ends by another 8 years or so (I don’t count those first few year, since I was too busy watching TV to actually use my brain) of religious education.
The outcome of such an education can be one of two paths:
Either you choose to live a life of rules & regulation, not really understanding any of it, but being oblivious enough to the fact that you don’t understand for it not to matter. In this path you will probably die a happy and content man.
The other path, my path, is that of observing, processing, concluding and deciding. Followed closely by more observations, processing, conclusions and decisions.
This circle never really comes to an end but it keeps you on your feet and give you a solid grasp on the way you choose to live your life.
A grasp that no one, and I mean no one, can take a way from you.
If some one comes up with an argument which shatters your way of life- you accept it, reassess you life, make the appropriate changes and move on.
This path I just described, is my path.
I study religion- not just my own, but other as well. I study Philosophy & Anthropology, Science & Art, Poetry & Literature and History.
All these sources of information are mish-mashed in my mind’s eye and a way of life comes out of the other end.
This means my beliefs are always evolving, but are always built upon my past beliefs and slowly, over many hours of reading & discussing, a patter is formed.
My life decisions are made based on this pattern.
All these led me to one, unchangeable understanding – my life is good, and its time I did something to give others a chance to have a good life.
Journalism is the key I have found to that door.
